Care Needs Assessments are set to double by November 2022.
As adult care in the UK in its various forms begins to buckle under the unprecedented volumes, a new report is forecasting that over 500 people a day are joining the back of long waiting lists to get their needs assessed for care and support.
Figures taken from the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services are showing that almost 300,000 people are now waiting to be assessed.
This enormous number contains an increase of 44% in just 5 months and this is causing the wait times for 1 in 4 people to be over 6 months.
This rate of increase clearly indicates one thing. By November our country will have 400,000 people waiting to be assessed, and that figure is double the number from the previous year.
After ADASS recently published its annual Spring Survey it shared that 82% of councils were dealing with larger referral numbers from people in hospitals and another 74% were seeing more referrals for care from the local communities.
The same research has shown that one of the biggest reasons that thousands of people are waiting is that local care providers simply don’t have enough team to provide and sustain the services required and some were even closing down and handing back their coveted council contracts.
